CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT CONSENT CALENDAR City Manager Approva : Item to be presented by: Ian Pari DATE: April 22, 2003 SUBJECT: ESTABLISHING NO -STOPPING ZONE ALONG PAMPLICO DRIVE DEPARTMENT: Transportation and Engineering Services RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council adopt a resolution to establish a no -stopping zone along the north curb of Pamplico Drive, extending from Taryn Drive to 45 feet south of Ron Ridge Drive. Total parking removal is approximately 1,560 feet. BACKGROUND On January 28, 2003, the City of Santa Clarita's Traffic Engineering Division received a letter from a citizen who resides on Ron Ridge Drive, requesting a four-way stop at the intersection of Pamplico Drive and Ron Ridge Drive. This intersection is currently a two-way stop, with stop signs on Ron Ridge Drive. Traffic staff investigated the possibility of installing a four-way (multi -way) stop at this intersection; however, the traffic study showed that a four-way stop installation is not warranted, due to a low vehicle volume and no record of traffic accidents in the past two years at this location. The evaluation of the existing conditions at this intersection indicated that there are sight distance and visibility limitations at the northwest corner of Pamplico Drive and Ron Ridge Drive. The limited sight distance is partly due to existing trees and the curvature of the roadway on Pamplico Drive. In order to increase visibility at this intersection, approximately 1,560 feet of parking along the north curb of Pamplico Drive, extending from Taryn Drive to 45 feet south of Ron Ridge Drive, must be removed. The removal of parking in this section of Pamplico Drive would have no adverse effect on the parking demand in the area, since there is adequate parking along the south curb of Pamplico Drive. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS 1. Keep existing situation as is. 2. Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT The work involves the installation of 11 signs, which amount to approximately $1,100.00. Funds for this work are available in the Field Services Signing and Striping Maintenance account.
