INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Smyth and Members of the City Council
&eisnsman' and Membersof the Planning Commission
FROM: FeEneoaity Manager
DATE: , 2003
SUBJECT: WATER SUPPLY
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council and the Planning Commission receive and discuss the report.
BACKGROUND
The City's Planning Commission requested a study session on water supply to better
understand water and the impacts it has on development within the City. Staff felt that
the study session should correspond with the release of the water report and due to the
magnitude of the issue, it was determined that a joint City Council and Planning
Commission study session would be appropriate. Therefore, staff in coordination with the
Castaic Lake Water Agency, has organized a study session for both the City Council and
the Planning Commission to provide information about statewide and local water issues.
Representatives from the California Department of Water Resources and the Castaic Lake
Water Agency will discuss the major components of the State Water Project Delivery
Reliability Report, the 2002 Santa Clarita Valley Water Report, the 2000 Urban Water
Management Plan and provide a local groundwater update. In addition, a representative
from an environmental group will provide the Council and the Commission with their
perspective on the water resources issue. These representatives are available to address
these issues and answer any questions after the presentation.
