ITEM 1 I-5 AND SR -14 CORRIDOR STUDY DRAFT FINAL REPORT - Ken
Pulskamp, City Manager introduced the item and Mark Yamarone,
Capital Plan and Project Administrator. Mark stated that the City of
Santa Clarita has been working with the Los Angeles County
Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the cities of Palmdale and
Lancaster, and the County of Los Angeles to prepare the North County
Combined Highway Corridor Study. A synopsis of the study was
presented with alternatives for short and long term improvements as well
as an implementation plan. The long-term solutions for both I-5 and SR -
14 are currently being refined by the study team.
Council questions, concerns and comments included: working
toward high speed rail; competing with SCAG for dollars; Cross Valley
Connector a top priority- well positioned at the Federal level for funds.
ITEM 2 BRANDING STRATEGIES - Ken Pulskamp, City Manager introduced
Mike Haviland, Economic Development Coordinator and Jason Brown of
Centric who gave the presentation stating some reasons for using a
brand include lack of regional name identity, and a solid platform in
which to promote the City. Gail Ortiz, Public Information Officer
reported on the process and presented a preliminary design.
Council question, concerns and comments included: color choices
for the brand; relationship of brand and seal; the benefits of branding;
using history and characteristics of the City to create the design.
Public Participation included: Connie Worden Roberts regarding I-5/ SR -
14 Corridor Study and branding; Duane Harte regarding branding;
Victor Lindenhiem regarding I-5/SR-14 Corridor Study; and Allan
Cameron regarding road funding programs and branding.
Mayor Smyth adjourned the meeting at 6:50 p.m.
