HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004-11-23 - AGENDA REPORTS - AMEND CITY ATTORNEY AGMT (2)Agenda Item: __ CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT CONSENT CALENDAR City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: Ken Pulskamp DATE: November 23, 2004 SUBJECT: AMENDMENT TO THE AGREEMENT FOR CITY ATTORNEY SERVICES DEPARTMENT: City Manager RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council authorize the City Manager or designee to execute an Amended Agreement for City Attorney Services between the City of Santa Clarita and Burke, Williams & Sorensen, LLP. BACKGROUND The last agreement for the provision of City Attorney services between the City of Santa Clarita and the law firm Burke, Williams & Sorenson, LLP was effective July 1, 1997. Over the last seven years, there has been no increase in the cost of providing Attorney services to the City. The City recently received notice that the cost of providing City Attorney services has increased dramatically and received a request to amend the current agreement. More specifically, the request is for an adjustment in billing rates to be effective January 1, 2005, and an annual assessment thereafter consistent with the Consumer Price Index as approved by the City Manager, together with a modification of the designated personnel performing services on behalf of the City. The current and proposed hourly rates are as follows: Attorneys Current Rates Partners $175. Associates 1 st, 2nd, & 3rd year associates $140. 4th & 5th year associates $155. 6th & 7th year associates $170. Paralegals $ 75. FP ROWED Proposed Rates $215. $170. $190. $200. $ 95. It is also proposed that the retainer rates be adjusted from $135 to $165 per hour. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as directed by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT The fiscal impact to the City would result in a 23% increase in Attorney services costs to the City. ATTACHMENTS Amended Agreement for City Attorney Service
