INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO:a o elld& Councilmembers
FROM: I /Ken PWai , City 2r
DATE: March 2, 2004
SUBJECT: BRANDING STRATEGY
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Provide direction on selection of design concepts for future development of Citywide
standards guidelines.
BACKGROUND
As a part of the City of Santa Clarita Strategic Plan, the Economic Development Division
was assigned the responsibility to develop a branding strategy for the City of Santa
Clarita. The objective of the strategy is to create a distinctive and consistent graphic
image/identity that can be used for a variety of media as we communicate to our various
publics.
Most importantly, the new "mark" will be utilized in the City's economic development
activities, including business attraction, retention and marketing.
At the December 2, 2003 City Council Study Session on the Branding Strategy, Council
gave direction to revise the initial designs to have a greater connection to the original
City seal, to present the City name adjacent to the seal and to incorporate the colors of the
seal. New revisions to the designs have been made to reflect this direction.
Following selection of a design, the concept would be translated into a Citywide design
standards guideline booklet that would provide a consistent structure for the application
of the design.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
Provide further direction on design.
