BACKGROUND The terms of Planning Commissioners Michael Berger and Rick Winsman and of Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commissioners Karin Nelson and Laura Hauser will expire on July 31, 2004. These commissioners were nominated by Councilmembers Smyth and Mayor Kellar, respectively. Pursuant to procedures adopted by the City Council, below is a preliminary schedule to complete the appointment process: May 25 Council declares vacancies (regular Council meeting) May 29 City Clerk publishes and posts Notice of Vacancy per Government Code Section 54974. Prospective candidates may obtain an application from the City Clerk's Office or from the City's website. (publish notice twice and post in Clerk's Office, Libraries and Sheriffs Office) May 29 - June 18 City Clerk received applications June 18 - July 12 Councilmember Smyth and Mayor Kellar review applications. July 13 Councilmember Smyth and Mayor Kellar submit nominations for ratification by the City Council and appoint commissioners (regular Council meeting) The City Clerk will administer the oath of office to the newly -appointed Commissioners at the next regular meeting of their respective Commission after July 31, 2004. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by the City Council FISCAL IMPACT Costs of publishing the Notice of Vacancy are budgeted in the City Clerk's Office legal advertising account No. 2801-7310.
