TRANSPORTATION AND NEWHALL LAND FOR THE DESIGN
OF MAGIC MOUNTAIN PARKWAY/INTERSTATE 5 PHASE H,
PROJECT NO. S 1002

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council approve the design Cooperative Agreement with the California Department of
Transportation (Caltrans) and the Consent and Assumption Agreement with Newhall Land for
the Magic Mountain Parkway/Interstate 5 (1-5) Phase 111, Project No. S 1002; and authorize the
City Manager or designee to execute the Agreements, subject to City Attorney approval.
BACKGROUND
The City is the lead agency in the Magic Mountain Parkway/1-5 Phase H project. This project
will reconstruct the interstate ramps and relocate The Old Road approximately 600 meters to the
west of its current location, meeting Caltrans'design criteria. The project is being designed by
Newhall Land with Caltrans and the City providing design oversight. The design Cooperative
Agreement between the City and Caltrans outlines all of the City's obligations and Caltrans'
requirements as the lead agency. The City is requiring Newhall Land to enter into a Consent and
Assumption Agreement assigning the City's obligations under the Cooperative Agreement to
Newhall Land.
