SUBJECT: GOLDEN VALLEY ROAD INTERIM IMPROVEMENTS,
PROJECT NO. C3002 - PROJECT ACCEPTANCE
DEPARTMENT: Transportation and Engineering Services
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council accept the work performed by Granite Construction Company on the Golden Valley
Road Interim Improvements, Project No. C3002; direct the City Clerk to file the Notice of
Completion; and direct staff to release the remaining ten percent retention 35 days after the
Notice of Completion is recorded, provided no stop notices, as provided by law, have been filed.
BACKGROUND
On March 25, 2003, City Council awarded a contract for the Golden Valley Road Interim
Improvements to Granite Construction Company. The project made improvements at the
intersections of Ruether Avenue and Soledad Canyon Road and at Ruether Avenue and Golden
Triangle Road. The improvements included widening of these strategic intersections,
modifications to existing traffic signals and signal timing, modifications to storm drains and
inlets, removal of the concrete cross -gutter along Soledad Canyon Road, and other enhancements
to mitigate traffic flow in anticipation of the Centre Pointe Business Park development and
Golden Valley Road.
With consideration given for extra working days given to the contractor to complete utility
relocations, the project was completed on time and within budget.
In order to accommodate modifications of railroad facilities in the work area, the City and the
Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA) entered into a Construction and
Maintenance Agreement, whereby the City was to reimburse the SCRRA for its work. Final
accounting has not been completed by the SCRRA; however, staff anticipates that the original
estimate of $390,000.00 is sufficient to cover the cost of the work authorized by the City to date.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
Sufficient funds were budgeted in Account No. C3002455 to cover the cost of construction.
