HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004-03-09 - AGENDA REPORTS - RUBBERIZED ASPHALT GRANT PGM (2)Agenda Item: CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT CONSENT CALENDAR City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: Mark Yamarone DATE: March 9, 2004 SUBJECT: RUBBERIZED ASPHALT CONCRETE GRANT PROGRAM DEPARTMENT: Transportation and Engineering Services RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council approve the proposed Fiscal Year 2003/2004 and Fiscal Year 2004/2005 Rubberized Asphalt Concrete Grant projects, a part of the Annual Street Overlay Program; and direct staff to submit the completed grant applications to the California Integrated Waste Management Board. BACKGROUND The State of California is currently accepting applications to fund the construction of capital projects that promote reducing the number of waste tires going into landfills for disposal and eliminating the stockpiling of waste tires. The Rubberized Asphalt Concrete Grant Program is administered through the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB). Projects will compete for approximately $1,110,000 for Fiscal Year 2003/2004 and $1,200,000 for Fiscal Year 2004/2005 to fund projects throughout the State. The proposed projects would resurface numerous streets through the City's Annual Street Overlay Program in the City of Santa Clarita. These projects seek $100,000 in grant funds for Fiscal Year 2003/2004 and $50,000 for Fiscal Year 2004/2005. There is no local match required for this project. Any additional funding needed for the projects would be appropriated in the Annual Street Overlay Program. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS 1. Direct staff to not apply for this grant opportunity. 2. Other action as determined by the City Council. Adopted: y -a 3 FISCAL IMPACT There is no immediate fiscal impact from submitting the recommended grant application. In the event that the City is successful in obtaining a Rubberized Asphalt Concrete Grant award, appropriation of both grant funds and local City funds programmed for the Annual Street Overlay Program would be subjected to City Council consideration as part of the Fiscal Year 2004/2005 annual budget process. Funding for the Annual Street Overlay Program for Fiscal Year 2003/2004 has previously been approved by City Council. ATTACHMENTS Resolution
