CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT CONSENT CALENDAR City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: Curtis Nay DATE: November 23, 2004 SUBJECT: RUBBERIZED ASPHALT CONCRETE GRANT PROGRAM DEPARTMENT: Building and Engineering RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the City's 2004/2005 Rubberized Asphalt Concrete Grant application, a part of the Annual Overlay and Slurry Seal Programs; and direct staff to submit the completed grant application to the California Integrated Waste Management Board. BACKGROUND The State of California is currently accepting applications to fund a portion of the construction of capital projects that promote reducing the tire waste going into landfills for disposal and eliminating the stockpiling of waste tires. The rubberized Asphalt Concrete Grant Program is administered through the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB). Projects will compete for approximately $1,200,000 to fund portions of projects in $50,000.00 maximum increments throughout the state. This year's proposed project would resurface numerous streets through the City's Annual Overlay and Slurry Seal Programs. This project seeks grant funds for Fiscal Year 2004/2005. There is no local match required for this grant. The grant is a reimbursement of $2.50 per ton of rubberized asphalt, up to 20,000 tons per project. The grant funds would be paid to the City as a reimbursement, and the savings would be passed on to the following year's project. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by the City Council. AdoPted: Vp-qo- - / Z.S� FISCAL IMPACT There is no immediate fiscal impact from subn7iitting the recommended grant application. In the event that the City is successful in obtaining a Rubberized Asphalt Concrete Grant award, the amount would be added to the current project in which the City would realize a savings and pass the additional savings on to the next year's project.
