SOUTH FORK TRAIL QUITCLAIM DEED TO CORRECT
EASEMENT ERROR

RECOMMENDED ACTION
1. City Council approve the quitclaim deed for the South Fork Trail to correct easement error.
2. Authorize the City Manager or designee to execute all documents required to record the
quitclaim deed, subject to City Attorney approval.
BACKGROUND
The City received a trail easement from Newhall Land and Farming on the river bottom of the
South Fork River from the vacated Newhall Street crossing to the Via Princessa Bridge. This
trail easement was provided to connect the South Fork Trail to the Placerita Creek Trail by
crossing the South Fork River bottom to the confluence of Newhall Creek.
When the document was recorded by Los Angeles County, an adjacent parcel (AP Number:
#2859-001-043), not owned by Newhall Land and Farming, was inadvertently burdened with a
trail easement to the City. This quitclaim deed will remove the trail easement from parcel
number: 2859-001-043. The quitclaim deed will not affect the existing South Fork Trail or our
access to Newhall Creek. The area proposed to be quitclaimed is not needed for any current or
future trail project.
