HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004-04-27 - AGENDA REPORTS - VACATE BAYWOOD LANE (2)CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: SUBJECT: DEPARTMENT: Agenda Item: � CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT City Manager Approval Item to be presented by: April 27, 2004 Christopher Price INTENTION TO VACATE BAYWOOD LANE BETWEEN BROOKINGS COURT AND NEWHALL RANCH ROAD Transportation and Engineering Services RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council adopt a resolution declaring its intention to order the vacation of Baywood Lane between Brookings Court and Newhall Ranch Road; set May 25, 2004 as the date of the public hearing; and direct the City Clerk to publish and post notices as required by Part 3 of Division 9 of the Streets and Highways Code. BACKGROUND On February 11, 2003, the public hearing for Master Case No. 01-176, the Harborwoods project, was held. A condition to vacate a portion of Baywood Lane between Brookings Court and Newhall Ranch Road was placed on the project at the public hearing. This condition was to address traffic issues due to the proposed development. The residents in the surrounding community support this street vacation along with other traffic calming improvements that will be constructed as part of the Harborwoods project. Newhall Land will be responsible for the following improvements relating to this street vacation: construction of a "knuckle" at the end of Baywood Lane, removal and construction of the improvements in the vacated area, fee ownership of the eastern portion being conveyed to the City, and trail, landscaping, and drainage improvements. Easements will be reserved for the utilities that will remain in the vacated area. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by the City Council. Adopted: iReaa--au-,�9 FISCAL IMPACT Half of the vacated area will be maintained by the Parks Division, with the remaining 13,283 square feet being annexed into the existing Areawide Tl Landscape Maintenance District, Newhall Land will be responsible for funding the initial planting and has already paid the City $20,000.00 up front for establishment maintenance costs. The ongoing maintenance is estimated to cost less than $5,000.00 per year, to be paid out of the existing Landscape Maintenance District.
