VETERANS HISTORICAL PLAZA - PROJECT NUMBER P2001 -
AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS

RECOMMENDED ACTION
1. City Council approve the plans and specifications for Project Number P2001 provided by
Total Concept Landscape Architecture.
2. Authorize advertising forbids for the Veterans Historical Plaza.
BACKGROUND
In January 2003, the City Council authorized the design of the Veterans Historical Plaza. Staff
has completed the design of the park and is preparing to advertise for bids. The design reflects
the master plan developed through the public participation meetings and input from the
Historical Veterans Memorial Committee (HVMC).
At the July 13, 2004, City Council Meeting, Council authorized $600,000 for construction and
inspection of this project. The plaza site will include a water feature, flag poles, a Victorian
pergola, walkways, lighting, and landscaping. In addition, the HVMC is seeking cash donations
for a centrally located bronze sculpture and 14 story stations containing information on United
States military history. Although these elements are not included in this contract, the plans allow
for them to be added upon completion of construction.
The plaza site is located at the intersection of Newhall Avenue and Market Street.

FISCAL IMPACT
Funding has been budgeted in the FiscalYear 2004-05 Capital Improvement Program and is
available in Account Number P2001-001.
