RENEWAL OF REIMBURSEMENT AGREEMENT WITH
WILLIAM S. HART SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR SCHOOL
RESOURCE DEPUTIES

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council approve reimbursement agreement with William S. Hart School District for the
purchase of school resource deputies, and authorize the City Manager to sign all documents,
subject to City Attorney approval.
BACKGROUND
The City currently pays for 4.5 school resource deputies to work on campus at schools within
City limits. In September 1998, the City established a reimbursement agreement with William S.
Hart School District (the District) for the purchase of school resource deputies from the County
of Los Angeles Sheriffs Department. The original agreement was for a five-year term, expiring
June 30, 2004. This agreement provides that the District contracts directly with the Sheriffs
Department for these services and the City reimburse the District for those contracts costs. This
arrangement is beneficial to the City, as the District pays a lower rate than the City would have to
pay. The new reimbursement agreement will also have a five-year term, expiring on June 30,
2009.

Other action as approved by City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
The adopted 2004-05 budget included an appropriation of $465,000 for school resource deputies.
No additional expense is incurred by approval of this item.
