HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-06-14 - AGENDA REPORTS - CA ELECTRICAL CODE ADOPT AMEND (2)CONSENT CALENDAR 1.7313 SUBJECT: � ' :�:Ti1hi�1►Y1A Agenda Item: 2 CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: June 14, 2005 Ruben Barrera SECOND READING AND ADOPTION OF THE 2004 CALIFORNIA ELECTRICAL CODE WITH AMENDMENTS Building and Engineering City Council conduct a second reading and adopt an ordinance entitled: "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING THE 2004 CALIFORNIA ELECTRICAL CODE PUBLISHED BY THE CALIFORNIA BUILDING STANDARDS COMMISSION WITH LOCAL AMENDMENTS AS TITLE 19 OF THE SANTA CLARITA MUNICIPAL CODE." BACKGROUND At the May 24, 2005 City Council meeting, a first reading and public hearing were held to adopt the 2004 California Electrical Code with amendments. At that meeting, City Council moved the ordinance to second reading for adoption as required under government code. The adoption of the 2004 California Electrical Code will ensure the City is in compliance with State mandate to enforce the most recent edition of the building codes as developed and published by the California Building Standards Commission. This ordinance includes local amendments that set forth administrative provisions for adequate enforcement of the Electrical Code, and are consistent with enforcement practices used by other jurisdictions in the region and State. Under the provisions of this ordinance, the 2004 California Electrical Code with amendments will become effective August 1, 2005 as directed by the State of California. FISCAL IMPACT The cost for enforcing updated codes and providing staff training has been included in the annual Building and Engineering Department budget.
