HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-02-08 - AGENDA REPORTS - CMTY SERVICES GRANT PGM (2)CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: SUBJECT: DEPARTMENT Agenda Item: to CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: February 8, 2005 I Z�,4k4�A I/ Adele Macpherson V COMMUNITY SERVICES GRANT PROGRAM - PROJECT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FISCAL YEAR 2004-05 Parks, Recreation & Community Services RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council approve Community Services Grant Committee's Project Recommendation List for Fiscal Year 2004-05 in an amount not to exceed $75,650, and direct staff to execute agreements approved for funding. Authorize City Manager, or designee, to sign all documents pursuant to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND For approximately 14 years, the City of Santa Clarita has provided funds for community organizations through the Community Services Grant Program. Each year a Community Services Grant Committee is assembled to determine funding categod . es, review and rate applications, and make final funding recommendations. This year's grant selection committee included Councilmember Bob Kellar, Councilmember Laurene Weste, Ken Striplin, Adele Macpherson, Phil Lantis, Kevin Tonoian, and Dennis Luppens. In the past, funding has been used to provide programs in the Arts, Violence Prevention, Drug and Alcohol Prevention, and Educational programs addressing the Environment, Traffic, Tolerance, and Wellness. This year's funding categories are: Arts Community Benefit Nineteen grant applications were received, with requests totaling $138,136. The breakdown per category is as follows: Arts: I I applications, totaling $78,986 Community Benefit: 8 applications, totaling $59,150 0 1 1 1 1 1 N ml�l City Council approved funding for $75,650 in the 2004-05 budget to be awarded to the selected grant applicants. The maximum funding for each application is $7,500. Eleven applications will be funded, totaling $75,650 (see Attachment A). As in previous years, the Santa Clarita Resource Center provided four opportunities for applicants to meet and network in preparation for writing grants. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS 1. City Council not approve Community Services Grant Funding. 2. Other action as determined by City Council. FISCAL IMPACT Funds in the amount of $75,650 have been budgeted and are available in the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department Account Number 7413-8110.
