2005-09-13 - AGENDA REPORTS - GOLDEN TRIANGLE NO STOP ZONE (2)
CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: SUBJECT: DEPARTMENT: Agenda Item: CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: September 13, 2005 GOLDEN TRIANGLE ROAD AT GOLDEN OAK ROAD TRAFFIC CIRCULATION Public Works RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council adopt a resolution establishing a no -stopping zone along the south curb line of Golden Triangle Road between Centre Pointe Parkway and approximately 150 feet east of Golden Oak Road to implement a proposed striping modification plan designed to improve traffic circulation at the intersection of Golden Triangle Road/Golden Oak Road. BACKGROUND During the July 12, 2005 City Council meeting, City Council directed Traffic staff to explore the possibilities of enhancing circulation at the intersection of Golden Triangle Road at Golden Oak Road (Exhibit "A"). Staff explored options and came up with a conceptual plan that will provide efficiency and enhance circulation at the intersection. The traffic volume on Golden Triangle Road has been increasing due to new developments in the surrounding area. As a result, the intersection of Golden Triangle Road and Golden Oak Road experiences a high level of congestion, especially during commuter/school peak hours. Staff analysis determined that the intersection's traffic circulation could improve with a striping modification; a two-way left -tum on Golden Triangle Road and a separate eastbound left -tum pocket at Golden Oak Road. This modification, however, requires on -street parking to be removed on the south side of Golden Triangle Road from Centre Pointe Parkway to almost 150 feet east of Golden Oak Road, for a total of 800 feet. Exhibit "B" illustrates the striping modification and the proposed parking restriction area. Adopted: S , os- /© (P All four affected property owners were contacted regarding the proposed striping modifications and staff received no objection to the proposal. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS 1. Leave striping as is. 2. Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT The work involves the installation of seven signs, amounting to approximately $700.00. Funds for this work are available in the Striping and Signing Maintenance Account No. 4814-7335.
