HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-06-14 - AGENDA REPORTS - LACO 16TH ST STORMDRN (2)CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: SUBJECT: DEPARTMENT: Agenda Item If CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT Curtis Nay City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: June 14, 2005 AUTHORIZATION TO THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE 16TH STREET STORM DRAIN REPLACEMENT PROJECT Building and Engineering RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council adopt a resolution approving the 16th Street Storm Drain Replacement project by the Los Angeles County Flood Control District; and authorize the Los Angeles County Flood Control District to proceed with the construction of the project. BACKGROUND This project will replace the storm drain system near the intersection of 16th Street and Walnut Street with a new system within the public right-of-way that will outlet to the Santa Clara River. The existing drain, located mostly on private property, is currently servicing public drainage. Portions of the existing system have collapsed and is beyond repair. On November 25, 2003, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors authorized funds for design, construction management, and construction of the subject project. On December 17, 2003, City and County staff agreed to a scope of work between the two agencies. The County will take responsibility for the replacement of the existing storm drain improvements within the 16th Street and Walnut Street rights-of-way. The City will take responsibility for addressing issues outside the road right-of-way and abandon the existing storm drain system on private property. The existing storm drain will be abandoned after the completion of the new storm drain system. City staff is currently obtaining bids for this work. The plans and specifications for the project are complete. The project is scheduled to begin construction in the summer of 2005. The construction will take approximately three months to complete. Adopted:a. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT The estimated construction for the new drain is $500,000.00. The cost to construct the new drain will be funded by the Los Angeles County Flood Control District. The cost to abandon the existing storm drain outside of the public right-of-way is estimated at $20,000.00, and will be funded by the City.
