BONNIE VIEW AVENUE AND SCHERZINGER LANE -
ESTABLISH NO -STOPPING ZONES
Building and Engineering
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council adopt a resolution establishing a no -stopping zone along the south side of
Bonnie View Avenue and along the west side of Scherzinger Lane, south of Sierra Cross
Avenue.
BACKGROUND
During construction of the recent Scherzinger Lane Street Improvement project, a concern was
raised regarding roadway widths and access restrictions on Bonnie View Avenue and
Scherzinger Lane, south of Sierra Cross Avenue. After consulting with the Los Angeles County
Fire Department, staff believes that it would be in the best interest of public safety to restrict
parking on one side of each of these roadways to allow access for emergency vehicles. If the
City Council concurs, no parking will be allowed on the south side of Bonnie View Avenue and
the west side of Scherzinger Lane, south of Sierra Cross Avenue. The total amount of parking
that is recommended for restriction is approximately 113 feet on Bonnie View Avenue and
72 feet on Scherzinger Lane.
Traffic staff consulted with area residents who agreed that parking should be removed in order to
minimize the effect of the no -stopping zones.
The roadway width is 26 feet on Bonnie View Avenue, and 28 feet on Scherzinger Lane, south of
Sierra Cross Avenue. Eliminating parking on one side of each of these roadways will leave
20 feet of travel lane for emergency vehicles, 6 feet of parking lane on Bonnie View Avenue, and
8 feet of parking lane on Scherzinger Lane.
Adopted: Qe_%6. C6-17
This item also seeks approval to remove 15 feet of parking along the east curb of Scherzinger
Lane to increase visibility at the intersection of Scherzinger Lane and Bonnie View Avenue. The
homeowner affected by this no -stopping zone has been contacted by City staff, and is in support
of this action.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
1. Do not restrict parking in the subject area, and keep the existing situation.
2. Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
The work involves the installation of eight signs, which amounts to approximately $800.00.
Funds for this work are available in the Field Services Signing and Striping Maintenance
Account No. 5214-7335.
