SUBJECT: RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO APPLY TO THE
STATE OF CALIFORNIA FOR WORKERS' COMPENSATION
COVERAGE

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council approve the resolution, authorizing the City Manager or designee to apply for a
certificate of consent to self -insure for Workers' Compensation coverage with the State of
California.
BACKGROUND
This resolution will allow the City to insure for Workers' Compensation coverage with Special
District Risk Management Authority (SDRMA). SDRMA is a Joint Powers Insurance Authority
that offers General Liability and Workers' Compensation coverage. Currently, the City purchases
Workers' Compensation coverage from State Fund.
SDRMA offers excellent training that will reduce the frequency and severity of Workers'
Compensation claims. Additionally, SDRMA offers claims management and follow-ups that
maintain costs at lower levels.

Other direction as determined by City Council.

FISCAL IMPACT
The purchasing of general liability and Workers' Compensation coverage with SDRMA, will
save the City an estimated $1.2 million dollars on premiums.
