HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-05-24 - RESOLUTIONS - PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY (2)RESOLUTION NO. 05-50 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING COUNCIL POLICY STATEMENT ON PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ACTIONS OF MINORS AND STRICT ENFORCEMENT OF THE LAW FOR SANTA CLARITA OFFENDERS WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita believes in providing parents the necessary support and tools to assist in their parental responsibilities; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita supports its youth, recognizes that they have difficult choices at times, and helps provide the tools necessary to assist youth in making the correct choices; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita supports the efforts of the District Attorney's Office, Probation, Courts, Law Enforcement, and other agencies involved in the adjudication of cases concerning Santa Clarita youth; and WHEREAS, the "Procedures for the Citation of Non -Detained Minors," adopted by the Juvenile Division of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, include all the intervention, parental responsibilities, and youth accountabilities that were the original intent of the City of Santa Clarita's Parental Responsibility Ordinance proposed in 1998-99; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita supports the continued enforcement of the Los Angeles County Procedures for the Citation of Non -Detained Minors; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita supports and encourages strict and appropriate sentencing for convicted vandals and felons from the Santa Clarita Valley. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita does hereby resolve as follows: SECTION 1. The City of Santa Clarita will communicate with the officials at the Sylmar Juvenile Court and San Fernando Court and request the maximum use of available penalties for convicted vandals and felons from the Santa Clarita Valley; and SECTION 2. The City of Santa Clarita will request the Courts to order parents of convicted or troubled juveniles to attend parenting classes that will help them cope with their responsibilities as parents; and SECTION 3.
