2007 SUPPLEMENTAL CALL FOR PROJECTS GRANT
SUBMITTAL
Public Works
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council approve the proposed 2007 Supplemental Call for Projects grant submittal
requesting additional grant funding for Magic Mountain Parkway Phase II, Incident
Management -Traveler Information Subsystem, and Santa Clara River Trail projects; and direct
staff to submit the completed grant applications to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority
(Metro) by the September 27, 2006 deadline.
BACKGROUND
Metro is currently accepting on a one-time basis applications for supplemental funding to cover
cost increases for existing projects previously funded through prior 1999, 2000, and 2001 Call
for Projects. This competitive application process covers cost increases to the existing scope of
work for active or programmed Call for Projects recipients. Five different modal categories exist
to apply within. The City qualifies for three of these categories. Applications the City plan to
submit will not be in competition with each other, and previously completed projects are
ineligible.
If the City is successful in one or more of the applications, an amendment to the current
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or Letter of Agreement (LOA) will be executed. In
addition, projects are required to expend funds within 18 months of the Metro Board action
approval process, anticipated in January 2007.
Specific project scope applications include:
1. Magic Mountain Parkway Phase II: Construction cost increase
2. Incident Management -Traveler Information Subsystem: Cost increase for additional
equipment capacity
3. Santa Clara River Trail: Design and construction cost for Trail Segment V from the
Keystone development project to west of Discovery Park
APPROVED
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
1. Direct staff to not apply for this grant opportunity.
2. Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no immediate fiscal impact from submitting the recommended grant applications. In the
event that the City is successful in obtaining 2007 Supplemental Call for Projects award(s),
appropriation of both grant funds and the required local City match would be subjected to City
Council consideration as part of the Fiscal Year 2007/2008 annual budget process.
