HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-05-23 - AGENDA REPORTS - CMSN VACANCIES (2)Agenda Item: CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT CONSENT CALENDAR City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: Sharon Dawson DATE: May 23, 2006 SUBJECT: COMMISSION VACANCIES DEPARTMENT: Administrative Services RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council declare three vacancies on the Planning Commission and three vacancies on the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission, and approve the appointment process. BACKGROUND The terms of Planning Commissioners Diane Trautman, Timothy Burkhart, and Dennis Ostrom and Parks, Recreation & Community Services Commissioners Ed Redd, Laurie Ender, and the position formerly held by Todd Longshore, will expire on July 31, 2006. These commissioners were nominated by Councilmember McLean, Councilmember Ferry, and Mayor Weste, respectively. Pursuant to procedures adopted by the City Council, below is a preliminary schedule to complete the appointment process: May 23 Council declares vacancies (regular Council meeting). May 27 City Clerk publishes and posts Notice of Vacancy per Government Code Section 54974. Prospective candidates may obtain an application from the City Clerk's Office or from the City's website. (Publish notice twice and post in Clerk's Office, Libraries, and Sheriffs Office.) May 27 - June 22 City Clerk receives applications. June 22 - July 11 Mayor Weste and Councilmembers McLean and Ferry review applications. July 11 Mayor Weste and Councilmembers McLean and Ferry submit nominations for ratification by the City Council and appoint commissioners (regular Council meeting). PF E The City Clerk will administer the oath of office to the newly appointed Commissioners at the next regular meeting of their respective Commission after July 31, 2006. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT Costs of publishing the Notice of Vacancy are budgeted in the City Clerk's Office legal advertising account No. 2801-7310.
