JOINT USE AGREEMENT WITH SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
EDISON - SIERRA HIGHWAY NORTH OF GOLDEN VALLEY
ROAD
Public Works
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council approve the Joint Use Agreement with Southern California Edison; and authorize
the City Manager or designee to execute the agreement, subject to City Attorney approval.
BACKGROUND
On June 19, 2001, the Planning Commission approved Tentative Tract Map No. 53419 on Sierra
Highway north of Golden Valley Road. The Conditions of Approval for this tract require the
developer to widen Sierra Highway, causing the relocation of Southern California Edison
(Edison) transmission lines. This portion of Sierra Highway is a State highway, but due to
potential future relinquishment of the highway, the additional right-of-way necessary for the road
widening has been dedicated to the City. Edison's prior rights for the existing transmission lines
were established by a joint use agreement with the State when the highway was constructed. In
order to maintain their prior rights, Edison requires a new joint use agreement to be signed by the
City prior to relocating the transmission lines into the City's right-of-way. The cost of the utility
relocation is being paid for by the developer.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
