HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-05-23 - AGENDA REPORTS - EDWARD BYRNE JAG PGM (2)CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: SUBJECT: DEPARTMENT: Agenda Item: 7_ CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: May 23, 2006 Adele Macpherson 2006 EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG) PROGRAM Parks, Recreation, and Community Services RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council to accept Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance. Increase estimated revenues in Account Number 109-5271 by $20,397. Increase estimated expenditures in Account Number 74956-8001 (Contractual Services) by $20,397. Authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute any contract documents, change orders, or amendments arising out of this program, subject to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND The City of Santa Clarita has been awarded a grant for $20,397 by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance through the 2006 Edward Byme Memorial (JAG) Program. This program allows states and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime, and to improve the criminal justice system. The funding distribution is based on population and crime statistics. Grant funds will be used for overtime that will enable the Sheriffs Community Interaction Team (CIT) to conduct sting operations, graffiti and gang enforcement, curfew operations, probation/parole enforcement, stake -outs of potential crime locations, undercover operations, and other surveillance operations as needed. This will allow the CTT Unit to assist with other law enforcement and community policing efforts that will help reduce crime in the City and promote safety for its residents. FISCAL IMPACT The total cost of this program is $20,397 to be offset completely by grant funds. ATTACHMENTS Grant Award Document.
