The program provides fixed -route fares at no cost during all hours of local transit operation for seniors ages 60 and above. , BACKGROUND As reported in early September, the primary goal of the FREEdom for Seniors program is to transition ambulatory seniors from the costly paratransit service to Santa Clarita's fixed -route network, thereby increasing capacity aboard the paratransit system for non-ambulatory residents and a possible cost savings to the City. In September 2006, City Council approved the three-month FREEdom for Senior pilot program. It is staffs intent to report the progress of the FREEdom for Seniors program to Council before conclusion of the pilot program, and an additional month of data collection and analysis will help facilitate doing so. As such, staff requests an extension through January 31, 2007. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT The additional loss of farebox revenue is estimated to be $4,945. This loss of revenue would impact account 801-6301. ATTACHMENTS None.
