F2002 AND F2006 - PROJECT ACCEPTANCE Public Works RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council accept the work performed by S.J. Amoroso Construction Company, Inc. for the Newhall Community Center and Jan Heidt Metrolink Parking Lot Expansion, Project Nos. F2002 and F2006; direct the City Clerk to file the notice of completion; and direct staff to release the retention balance 35 days after the notice of completion is recorded, provided no stop notices, as provided by law, have been filed. BACKGROUND On June 22, 2004, the City Council awarded a construction contract to S.J. Amoroso Construction Company, Inc. to construct a new community center located at 22421 Market Street in the Newhall area of the City. In addition to the construction of the community center, this contract included an expansion of the existing Jan Heidt Metrolink parking lot, adding 150 parking spaces. The construction of the community center was substantially completed by January 20, 2006, and the grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony was held on January 21, 2006. The size of the new community center is three times the previously leased facility. The new community center consists of a classroom, teen room, dance room, sheriff substation, multipurpose room, boxing room, meeting rooms, and staff offices needed to facilitate the various functions of the center. The construction of the new community center has brought significant improvements to the local residents, and it provides many enhanced amenities to the Newhall community. The northeast portion of the parking lot adjacent to the Jan Heidt Metrolink Station was expanded by 150 spaces. A portion of the construction expenses for the parking lot expansion was funded by MTA through Proposition C. The construction contract was completed on time to the satisfaction of the City Engineer on June 12, 2006. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT Overall project costs, including design services, construction, furniture, and fixtures, are $7,661,647.54. ATTACHMENTS Notice of Completion
