HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-10-10 - AGENDA REPORTS - ORANGELINE MAGLEV SUPPORT (2)CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: SUBJECT: DEPARTMENT: Agenda Item: U CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: October 10, 2006 RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE ORANGELINE MAGLEV STATION AREA DEVELOPMENT POLICIES Public Works RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council adopt a resolution in support of the Orangeline Development Authority's (Authority) Maglev Station Area Development Policy Report, Milestone 7, which contains recommendations regarding Transit -Oriented Development (TOD), Station Area TOD concepts, and other Urban Design Concepts. BACKGROUND The Orangeline Development Authority is a joint exercise of powers authority comprised of thirteen cities in Los Angeles County and Orange County. The Authority was established to examine the feasibility and deployment of a high-speed maglev (magnetic levitation) transportation system in Southern California. The proposed elevated maglev system, known as the Orangeline, will run from North Los Angeles County to downtown Los Angeles, through the southeast portion of Los Angeles County and into Orange County. The potential Santa Clarita station site is located between State Route 14 and Sierra Highway, between Placerita Canyon, the future Santa Clarita Parkway, and Golden Valley Road. The site is being studied by the Authority's consultant, ARCADIS, as part of the Orangeline feasibility study. The Orangeline Maglev Station Area Development Policy Report, Milestone 7, recommends that the City undertake a program to review and update the General Plan to reflect the Orangeline project, local station area development, and incorporate only those policy recommendations contained in the Authority s Milestone 7 report that are appropriate for the City. The report contains recommendations pertaining to Transit -Oriented Development (TOD), Station Area TOD concepts, and other Urban Design Concepts. Adopted: go. b� Staff from the Traffic, Planning, and Transit Divisions have reviewed the Milestone 7 report, and believe that the recommendations contained in the report are appropriate. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS 1. Decline to adopt the resolution. 2. Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT There is no immediate fiscal impact from adopting this resolution.
