STATION AREA DEVELOPMENT POLICIES
Public Works
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council adopt a resolution in support of the Orangeline Development Authority's
(Authority) Maglev Station Area Development Policy Report, Milestone 7, which contains
recommendations regarding Transit -Oriented Development (TOD), Station Area TOD concepts,
and other Urban Design Concepts.
BACKGROUND
The Orangeline Development Authority is a joint exercise of powers authority comprised of
thirteen cities in Los Angeles County and Orange County. The Authority was established to
examine the feasibility and deployment of a high-speed maglev (magnetic levitation)
transportation system in Southern California. The proposed elevated maglev system, known as
the Orangeline, will run from North Los Angeles County to downtown Los Angeles, through the
southeast portion of Los Angeles County and into Orange County.
The potential Santa Clarita station site is located between State Route 14 and Sierra Highway,
between Placerita Canyon, the future Santa Clarita Parkway, and Golden Valley Road. The site is
being studied by the Authority's consultant, ARCADIS, as part of the Orangeline feasibility
study.
The Orangeline Maglev Station Area Development Policy Report, Milestone 7, recommends that
the City undertake a program to review and update the General Plan to reflect the Orangeline
project, local station area development, and incorporate only those policy recommendations
contained in the Authority s Milestone 7 report that are appropriate for the City. The report
contains recommendations pertaining to Transit -Oriented Development (TOD), Station Area
TOD concepts, and other Urban Design Concepts.
Adopted: go. b
Staff from the Traffic, Planning, and Transit Divisions have reviewed the Milestone 7 report, and
