PRESERVATION OF UNDEVELOPED LAND AD HOC
COMMITTEE

RECOMMENDED ACTION
1. City Council create an ad-hoc committee of the City Council, composed of Bob Kellar and
Laurene Weste, for the preservation of undeveloped land.
2. City Council approve a budget transfer in the amount of $100,000 from Council
Contingency Account 2250-7401 to Administrative Services Administration account
2100-8001 for professional consultant services.
BACKGROUND
At the October 24, 2006 City Council meeting, a number of community members spoke in
support of preserving undeveloped land and asked the Council to once again consider pursuing
creation of a mechanism to finance the preservation of undeveloped land. At that time, Council
agreed to bring this request to tonight's meeting for approval of the effort and the creation of an
Council Ad -Hoc Committee. hi order to pursue this complex project, the services of
professional consultants are required. The budget for this effort includes:
Community Outreach $50,000
Assessment Engineer $50,000
Total $100,000
The City Council creates committees for the purpose of reviewing in detail various issues
impacting the City and providing recommendations to the City Council for action. During the
APPROVED.
course of this project, issues will arise which require extensive background review and staff
direction before being brought forward to the City Council for direction. An ad-hoc committee
for the development of a special district to address the preservation of undeveloped land in Santa
Clarita will facilitate a successful partnership between the City Council, staff, and the consultant
team to be hired for this project.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
A transfer of $100,000 from the City Council Contingency account 2250-7401 to account
2100-8001 will be necessary to fund this action. $230,000 will remain in Council contingency if
this appropriation is approved.
