ESTABLISH "NO -STOPPING" ZONE ALONG THE NORTH AND
SOUTH CURBLINES OF SOLEDAD CANYON ROAD
EXTENDING EASTERLY FROM SHADOW PINES
BOULEVARD TO THE NEW CITY LIMIT
Public Works
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
City Council adopt a resolution establishing approximately 3,000 feet of "no stopping" zone
along the north and south curblines of Soledad Canyon Road, extending easterly from Shadow
Pines to the new City limit.
BACKGROUND:
On July 27, 2006, the residential community of Stonecrest was officially annexed to the City of
Santa Clarita. The annexation included the roadway portion of Soledad Canyon Road from
Shadow Pines Boulevard to approximately 1,600 feet easterly. Upon annexation, staff evaluated
traffic conditions along this roadway segment of Soledad Canyon Road and concluded that the
existing Class II bikeway facility along westbound and eastbound Soledad Canyon Road,
between Shadow Pines Boulevard and Galeton Road, can be extended easterly to the new City
limit to better accommodate bicyclists utilizing the area.
The extension of the bike lane will provide continuity to the existing bicycle facility which is a
preferred route for bicyclists. It will provide for more predictable movements by both bicyclists
and motorists. The construction of the bike lane is accomplished by reducing the width of the
curb lane for both directions. This requires that approximately 3,000 feet of existing parking
along the north and south curblines of Soledad Canyon Road, between Shadow Pines Boulevard
and the new City limit, be removed.
Adopted: ksa--a-qs
Since there are no residences or businesses fronting Soledad Canyon Road between Shadow
Pines Boulevard and the new City limit, the proposed no -stopping zone will have no adverse
effect on parking demands in the area.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
1. Keep existing situation as is.
2. Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
The work involves the installation of approximately 20 signs, amounting to approximately
$2,000.00. Funds for this work are available in the Streets Striping and Signing Maintenance
Account No. 4814-7335.
