P3010 - AWARD DESIGN CONTRACT Parks, Recreation, and Community Services RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council award the design contract to RIM Design Group for the Santa Clarita Sports Complex - Phase IV Design Project No. P3010-450 in the amount of $327,300, and authorize a 10% contingency in the amount of $32,730. The funds for this project totaling $360,030, have been budgeted in Fiscal Year 2006-07 in Account Number P3010-450-8001. 2. Authorize the City Manager, or designee, to execute all documents, subject to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND The City of Santa Clarita owns approximately 60 acres of a partially -developed park site at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex. The property is located in the central section of the City within the Centre Pointe Industrial Park. This project will modify portions of the existing developed park site and create a new park expansion of approximately 14 acres. Currently, the developed portion of the property, which is approximately 22 acres, contains the Aquatic Center, a multi-purpose Activities Center, a Gymnasium, and a Skate Park. Proposed facilities in Phase IV include a new plaza -styled skate park facility, shade structures, a restroom building, a combination basketball court/roller hockey area, and a multi -use sports field. In addition, a vehicular access road, parking lots, walkways, a pedestrian drop-off and pick-up area, and landscape planting will be included in the project limits. The expansion of the existing gymnasium, providing two additional courts, will be included in the Phase IV Project under a separate design contract. U I I I NOi iE� Also included in the Phase IV project will be a temporary off -leash dog park. A permanent off -leash dog park will be constructed at the Sports Complex as part of a future phase. All of these items were discussed at numerous public participation meetings in the development of the Council -approved Master Plan. Additional public meetings will be held to involve the community in the design process for the skate plaza area. Through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process, RJM Design Group was selected to prepare the Master Plan for the Santa Clarita Sports Complex site. Based on technical qualifications and a thorough understanding of the project master plan, RJM Design Group is the recommended firm for this design project. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT The funds for this project totaling $360,030, have been budgeted in Fiscal Year 2006-07 in Account Number P3010-450-8001.
