PURCHASE OF CHAPTER 8 TAX -DEFAULTED PROPERTY

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council approve Chapter 8 Agreement No. 2509 to purchase Los Angeles County
Tax -Defaulted Property, APN 2833-011-047; authorize a total expenditure amount not to exceed
$2,500.00 from Dockweiler Drive Account No. S3023303 for the property purchase ($1,818.00)
and additional fees necessary for the payment of publication and title transfer fees; and authorize
the City Manager or designee to execute all documents, subject to City Attorney approval.
BACKGROUND
Pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 8 of the Los Angeles County Revenue and Taxation Code,
governing agencies may enjoy priority to purchase tax -defaulted properties for public use
purposes prior to, or while, the properties are publicly auctioned by the County. The proposed
acquisition will assist in implementing the future alignment of the Dockweiler Drive extension.
The extension of Dockweiler Drive will create a secondary east -west link through Newhall, with
eventual connections that coordinate with the public enhancement of downtown Newhall. This
1/2 -acre parcel is located adjacent to an existing City -owned 6.82 -acre parcel, APN
2833-012-019, previously acquired in preparation for this same roadway alignment.
In order to acquire this parcel via the Chapter 8 process, the City must sign the Agreement to
Purchase Los Angeles County Tax -Defaulted property (Exhibit A), pay the purchase price listed
for the parcel in the Agreement ($1,818.00), and pay title and transfer fees approximately
$618.00, for a total amount not to exceed $2,500.00 to acquire the property.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
Approval of this action will leave a balance of $247,500.00 in Dockweiler Drive Account No.
S3023303.
