City Council Study Session*
Tuesday, November 7, 2006
Call to Order: 5:33 p.m.
Roll Call: All Councilmembers were present with the exception of Councilmembers Smyth and
Ferry. Councilmember Ferry arrived at 5:35 p.m.
Flag Salute: Councilmember Kellar led the Flag Salute.
ITEM 1 TRANSPORTATION DEVELOPMENT PLAN — Ken Pulskamp, City
Manager, introduced the item and both Jeff O'Keefe, Transit Manager, and
Corie Hill, Administrative Analyst for the Transit Division. Mr. O'Keefe
introduced Transit staff, and he and Ms. Hill gave an update of the
Transportation Development Plan (TDP).
Council questions, concerns and comments included: Looking at the whole
picture and including other transit needs aside from buses; doing a separate
study to include Metrolink; appreciation and fondness for the Santa Clarita
Hometown Trolley; addressing Dial -a -Ride complaints from seniors; the
possibility of adding additional alternative fueling stations around the City;
use of smaller units rather than full size buses to save on resources and for
ease of commuter boarding; and the possible relocation of the Via Princessa
Rail Station.
Council directed staff to present options at the next regular meeting for filling
the possible vacancy by Councilmember Smyth should he be the successful
candidate to the Assembly and vacate his City Council seat.
Connie Worden-Roberts addressed the Council regarding the development
outside the City limits and the need to work collaboratively with the County
for the benefit of all.
An unidentified man addressed the Council regarding ridership on Regional
Express Route 790.
Mayor Weste adjourned the meeting at 6:06 p.m.
