S2043 - PROJECT ACCEPTANCE DEPARTMENT: Public Works RECOMMENDED ACTION 1. City Council accept the completion of 8th Street and Parkview Drive Drainage Improvements, Project No. S2043. 2. Direct the City Clerk to file the attached Notice of Completion. 3. Approve an additional expenditure for $42,856 to R.C. Becker & Son, Inc. 4. Direct staff to release the 10 percent retention 35 days after the Notice of Completion is recorded, provided no stop notices have been filed, as provided by law. BACKGROUND On June 12, 2007, the City Council awarded the construction contract of 8th Street and Parkview Drive Drainage Improvements to R.C. Becker & Son, Inc. for $193,969 with a 15 percent contingency of $29,095. Construction began on July 9, 2007. The project addressed the problems of stagnant water and damaged asphalt pavement along 8th Street and Parkview Drive in the Newhall area. The work consisted of resurfacing 8th Street from Cross Street to Parkview Drive, resurfacing Parkview Drive, installing 10 -inch PVC storm drainpipe, inlets, and catch basins, and constructing the concrete gutter and 4 -foot wide inverted shoulders. Due to the substantial amount of asphalt overlay in this project, it has been anticipated that funds from the Annual Overlay project would be used to account for any funding shortfall. At completion of work, the incurred additional expenditure was $42,856. The total construction cost was $265,920. APPROVED The construction contract was completed ahead of schedule and to the satisfaction of the City Engineer on August 17, 2007. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact created by the approval of the recommended action. Adequate funding has been budgeted in Account Nos. S2043601-5161.001 and S2043230-5161.001 to provide for project costs. The City's address is 23920 Valencia Boulevard, Suite 300, Santa Clarita, California 91355-2196. 3. The general location of said public improvement is in the Newhall area of Santa Clarita, California. 4. On June 12, 2007, a contract to construct said public improvement was awarded to R.C. Becker & Son, Inc., 28355 Kelly Johnson Parkway, Santa Clarita, California 91355. 5. Work under said contract was completed on August 17, 2007, to the satisfaction of the City Engineer, and was accepted by the City on October 9, 2007. STATE OF CALIFORNIA ) COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES ) ss.
