HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-05-22 - AGENDA REPORTS - APPT REDEVELOPMENT CMTE (2)Agenda Item: CITY OF SANTA CLARITA REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY AGENDA REPORT City Manager Approval: AAO CONSENT CALENDAR Item to be presented by: Christopher Price DATE: May 22, 2007 SUBJECT: NOMINATION AND APPOINTMENT OF NEWHALL REDEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEMBER(S) DEPARTMENT: Community Development RECOMMENDED ACTION Redevelopment Agency direct the Economic Development/Redevelopment Subcommittee to recommend appointments to serve on the Newhall Redevelopment Committee (NRC). BACKGROUND On February 8, 2005, the Redevelopment Agency voted to establish the number of NRC members at 13. The Committee Norms were also established such that every two years the Redevelopment Agency would re-evaluate one half of the then current NRC, and at the same time open the process for new member consideration. A lottery was also held to establish which NRC members' terms would expire in 2007, and which would carry forward to 2009. NRC members Amparo Cevallos, Duane Harte, Carol Rock, Robert Spierer, Randal Winter, and Leon Worden had terms that expired in January 2007. Additionally, Committee members Melissa Pillmear resigned in September of 2006 and John Ahrens resigned in January of 2007. On April 3, 2007, the City Clerk's Office posted notice of applications for the NRC with a deadline for applications of May 1. The application deadline was later extended to May 14 and 15 applications were submitted for consideration. Five of the six NRC members submitted their names for re -appointment to the Committee. In addition, in the open process for new member consideration, 10 new applications for appointment were received. 9til0111-lVE New applicants for the NRC submitted the standard application form with three letters of recommendation. The criteria for appointment is based on information in this application which includes the applicant's involvement in the community and their vision for the project area. The appointment of NRC Members in 2005 had the Redevelopment Agency direct the Economic Development/Redevelopment Subcommittee to recommend a slate of candidates. Staff recommends following the same process for this recruitment. In anticipation of that direction, an Economic Development/Redevelopment Subcommittee meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, May 24. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as recommended by the Redevelopment Agency. FISCAL IMPACT No anticipated fiscal impact with this item.
