BACKGROUND
For approximately 16 years, the City of Santa Clarita has provided funds for community
organizations through the Community Services Grant Program. Each year a Community
Services Grant Committee is assembled to determine funding categories, review and rate
applications, and make final funding recommendations. This year's grant selection committee
included Mayor Marsha McLean, Councilmember Frank Ferry, Ken Striplin, Rick Gould, Adele
Macpherson, Kelli Ganley, Phil Lantis, and Erin Moore -Lay. In the past, funding has been used
to provide programs in the Arts, Violence Prevention, Drug and Alcohol Prevention, and
Educational programs addressing the Environment, Traffic, Tolerance, and Wellness.
This year's funding categories are:
• Beautification
• Cultural Arts
• Healthy Programs
APPROVED
Twenty-four grant applications were received, with requests totaling $157,688.82. The
breakdown per category is as follows:
• Beautification: 5 applications, totaling $35,624.66
• Cultural Arts: 8 applications, totaling $51,874.16
• Healthy Programs: I1 applications, totaling $70,190.00
City Council approved funding for $100,000 in the 2006-07 budget for the Community Services
Grant Program. Of this amount, $25,000 was given to the "City of Santa Clarita Presents"
program, which supports community art organizations that utilize College of the Canyons
Performing Arts Center for public performances. The remaining $75,000 is proposed to fund 12
grant applications. The maximum amount for funding each application is $7,500 (see
Attachment A).
As in previous years, the Santa Clarita Resource Center provided an opportunity for applicants to
meet and network in preparation for writing grants.
