SUBJECT: FISCAL YEAR 2006-2007 ANNUAL CONCRETE
REHABILITATION PROGRAM, PROJECT NOS. M0054, M0053,
AND T0024 - PROJECT ACCEPTANCE

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council accept the completion of the construction contract executed by FS Construction
for the Fiscal Year 2006-2007 Annual Concrete Rehabilitation Program, Project Nos. M0054,
M0053, and T0024.
2. Increase the contract expenditure by $35,000.00 from Account No. 4815-8055 to provide for
additional work.
3. Direct the City Clerk to file the attached Notice of Completion.
4. Direct staff to release the retention amount 35 days after the Notice of Completion is
recorded, provided no stop notices have been filed, as provided by law.
BACKGROUND
On January 9, 2007, the City Council awarded a construction contract in the amount of
$295,224.88 for the Fiscal Year 2006-2007 Annual Concrete Rehabilitation Program, Project
Nos. M0054, M0053, and T0024, to FS Construction.
The purpose of this project was to improve and upgrade sidewalks and drainage systems
Citywide by removing and replacing the existing damaged concrete sidewalks and curb and
gutter systems. This damage was due to uplifting caused by tree root infiltration and pavement
settlement.
The contracts for these projects (M0054, M0053, and T0024) were combined to ensure the most
efficient use of the available budget. By combining these projects, the City was able to remove
and replace 27,883 square feet of sidewalk and driveway approaches, 2,047 linear feet of curb
and gutter, and install 9 new handicapped access ramps at various intersections. During the
course of construction, there was a need to remove and replace an additional 12,821 square feet
of sidewalk and driveway approaches, and add one more new handicap ramp. This additional
work was authorized as the contractor was already in the area with the equipment and materials
needed to complete those repairs. Including these repairs as a part of this project was an efficient
use of time and resources and funding was available in the Streets Maintenance Concrete
account.
The construction contract was completed on time and to the satisfaction of the Director of Public
Works on May 31, 2007.

Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds totaling $330,000.00 were approved and budgeted in the current fiscal year. The
$35,000.00 to pay for the increased scope of work to the project is available in Expenditure
Account No. 4815-8055 (Streets Maintenance - Concrete).
