SUBJECT: COUNCIL COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS
DEPARTMENT: City Manager's Office
City Council
(1) review, discuss, make changes to, and approve the City Council Committee Appointments
list for 2007; and
(2) approve process to recruit a new appointee to the North County Transportation Coalition and
designate two Councilmembers to review applications and make a recommendation for the
Council's consideration.
BACKGROUND
On an annual basis, the City Council updates the Council Committee Appointments List. Staff
distributed a memo to each Councilmember transmitting the 2006 appointments list for
discussion at this time.
Also, as a result of B. J. Atkins' resignation from the North County Transportation Coalition,
Staff is recommending a process that would entail advertising the position for three weeks. Once
applications are submitted, it is recommended that a Council sub -committee be designated to
review the applications and make a recommendation for the Council's consideration. A
recommendation for the Council's appointment will be presented during the March 13, 2007 City
Council meeting.

SUBJECT: NORTH COUNTY TRANSPORTATION COALITION RESIGNATION AND
COUNCIL APPOINTMENT OPENING
As you know, the City is part of the North County Transportation Coalition with the
unincorporated County areas and the cities of Lancaster and Palmdale. The City of Santa Clarita
Council appointee has been BJ Atkins. He has served the City well over the years; however, he
has submitted his letter of resignation.
His resignation leaves a vacancy for Council consideration for appointment to the Coalition. We
plan to add this to the upcoming discussion on the Council committee and appointment
consideration. Currently, the City is also represented by Councilmember Smyth and the
Director of Public Works.
The meetings are monthly and alternate between the areas of the Santa Clarita Valley and
Antelope Valley.
