CITY OF SANTA CLARITA
AGENDA REPORT
NEW BUSINESS City Manager Approval:
Item to be presented by:
DATE: November 27, 2007
SUBJECT: NOMINATION AND APPOINTMENT OF FINANCIAL
ACCOUNTABILITY AND AUDIT PANEL
DEPARTMENT: Administrative Services
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council direct the City Clerk's Office to extend the filing deadline for the Open Space
Preservation District Financial Accountability and Audit Panel to Friday, December 28, 2007
BACKGROUND
At the regular meeting of September 11, 2007, City Council declared vacancies and directed the
City Clerk to post and publish the Notice of Vacancies for the Open Space Preservation District
Financial Accountability and Audit Panel.
The deadline for receipt of applications was Friday, October 26, 2007, at which time the City
Clerk submitted copies of the applications received to the City Council. At the close of the filing
period, a total of seven applications were received. One applicant lives in Castaic and therefore,
is not qualified to continue in the process. Additionally, a letter of withdrawal was received from
one of the remaining six applications, thus providing the City Council with a.pool of five
applicants.
After staff consultation with the Open Space Ad Hoc Committee, City Council is being asked to
extend the filing deadline for the FAAP vacancies because of the recent wildfire emergencies.
During the week of October 21, 2007, the last week for FAAP applications, a state of emergency
was declared at the local and state level. City residents were significantly impacted by the fires,
possibly inhibiting their capability to submit an application for the FAAP. Extending the
deadline and re -publishing the Notice of Vacancies would exhibit fairness and consideration,
allow for additional City residents to apply, and provide the City Council with a cross-section of
applicants to choose from so as to best represent the needs and the diversity of the entire
community.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
Other action as directed by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
