B0002 - AWARD DESIGN CONTRACT Public Works City Council award the contract to MNS Engineers Inc. for engineering design services for the 2006-07 Median Landscape, Project No. B0002, in the amount of $200,000.00, and authorize a $20,000.00 contingency expenditure; and authorize the City Manager or designee to execute all documents, subject to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND The 2006-07 Median Landscape project will provide design for a raised median with landscape along San Fernando Road/Bouquet Canyon Road from Oak Ridge Drive to Soledad Canyon Road. This effort also includes construction of the median from Oak Ridge Drive to Drayton Street. It will provide traffic flow improvements and enhance the aesthetics of this heavily -traveled corridor. A future construction effort to continue the beautification of the corridor from Drayton Street to Valencia Boulevard/Soledad Canyon Road will be submitted for funding consideration at a future date. Staff prepared a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the subject project for the design of the necessary improvements, and sent the RFP to firms on the City's Design Consultants List. Four firms submitted proposals: Company Pavement Engineering MNS Engineers, Inc. M3 Civil, Inc. KDM Meridian Location San Luis Obispo, CA Santa Barbara, CA Camarillo, CA Lake Forest, CA Based on technical qualifications and methodology for the project, MNS Engineers Inc. is the recommended firm. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT Funds in the amount of $865,000.00 have been appropriated in Account No. B0002001-8001. These funds will adequately provide for the design costs for the 2006-07 Median Landscape project. Future maintenance of the landscaping will be provided by the City's Landscape Maintenance District (LMD). ATTACHMENTS Location Map
