SUBJECT: METRO 2007 CALL FOR PROJECTS APPLICATIONS
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council direct staff to submit grant applications to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan
Transportation Authority (Metro) by the January 26, 2007 deadline, requesting an estimated
$55,702,529 in the 2007 Metro Call for Projects grant cycle.
BACKGROUND
In August 2006, Metro announced that a 2007 Call for Projects (Call) would be conducted. The
Call is a competitive grant process that co -funds new regionally significant capital transportation
projects. The Call is typically held biennially, however, a Call has not been held since 2001.
The 2007 Call will be highly competitive, with up to 88 cities and the County of Los Angeles
seeking an estimated $250 - $600 million in available funding, beginning in 2009 through 2013.
The 2007 Call schedule is as follows:
January 26, 2007 - Applications due to Metro
March 2007 - Applications ranked by Metro staff
May 2007 - Funding recommendations released
July 2007 - Metro Board awards projects
The Public Works Traffic and Transportation Planning Division took the lead in coordinating the
City's grant applications effort. Staff from all departments met to discuss projects that would be
good candidates for this funding opportunity. Projects were selected based on need, project
readiness, grant requirement fit, and budget, among other considerations. Should any project not
receive grant funding, staff will place the project on the City's unfunded list for future
consideration.
