SUBJECT: CITY HALL PUBLIC AREA IMPROVEMENTS, PROJECT NO.
F 1011 - AWARD THE DESIGN CONTRACT FOR THE SANTA
CLARITA ACTIVITIES CENTER'S MEZZANINE AND GROUND
FLOOR OFFICES BELOW THE MEZZANINE

RECOMMENDED ACTION
1. City Council award a contract for the first phase of the City Hall Public Area Improvements,
Project No. F1011, to RTK Architects, Inc. for architectural design services for the Santa
Clarita Activities Center's Mezzanine and Ground Floor Offices below the Mezzanine tenant
improvements in the amount of $89,500.00, and a 10 percent contingency in the amount of
$8,950.00.
2. Authorize the City Manager or designee to execute all documents, subject to City Attorney
approval.
BACKGROUND
Staff has identified the need to address existing and future space requirements at City Hall. In
2002, the City constructed the Santa Clarita Activities Center located at the southeast corner.of
Golden Valley Road and Centre Pointe Parkway. The property is located in the central section of
the City within the community of Canyon Country. When the Activities Center was constructed,
staffs vision was that the building could also provide for future recreational and staff needs.
This move is the first step to address. the growing needs at City Hall by relocating the City's
Community Services and Recreation Divisions staff from the first floor of City Hall to the Santa
Clarita Activities Center.
The tenant improvement at the Santa Clarita Activities Center will add 28 additional cubicles,
3 offices, 2 conference rooms, a new ballet room, storage closet, and copy center.
RTK Architects, Inc. was selected for the design services based on technical qualifications and
understanding of the project.

FISCAL IMPACT
Funds to cover the design costs of the Santa Clarita Activities Center's Mezzanine and Ground
Floor Offices Below Mezzanine tenant improvements have been appropriated into Expenditure
Account No. F1011001-8001. These funds will adequately provide for design costs.
