The Ventura County Transportation Commission recently completed a Santa Paula Branch Line
Rail Study that examines issues associated with the phased improvement and reconnection of the
Santa Paula Branch Line to the Antelope Valley rail line in Santa Clarita. City staff has been
participating in meetings discussing the progress of the study.
The Santa Paula Branch Line rail corridor is a 52 -mile long rail corridor that runs from the City
of Port Hueneme in Ventura County to Santa Clarita. There are currently varying levels of
passenger and freight service between Port Hueneme and Piru. There is no service between Piru
and Santa Clarita, as this segment would need to be reestablished.
The study analyzed a restored Santa Paula Branch Line that would provide the following:
• Passenger rail service between the coastal cities in Ventura County and Santa Clarita
• An east -west connection from the coast to the major rail corridors in the Central Valley
and the nation
• Opportunities to expand the local freight customer base
• Continue to provide a home for the Fillmore and Western's tourist trains and
movie/television productions
ALTERNATIVE ACTION
Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
There will be no fiscal impact for the City.
