BACKGROUND
The City of Santa Clarita owns approximately 60 acres of a partially developed park site, the
Santa Clarita Sports Complex. The property is located in the central section of the City within
the Centre Pointe Industrial Park. Phase IV will modify portions of the existing developed park
site and create a new park expansion of approximately 14 acres. Currently, the developed
portion of the property, which is approximately 22 acres, contains a multi-purpose activity center,
a gymnasium, a skate park, and an aquatics center.
Proposed facilities include a state of the art gymnasium, a combination basketball court/roller
hockey area, a grass volleyball area, a universally accessible play area, a lighted multi -use sports
field, and a new skate park. In addition, a vehicular access road, parking lots, paved and unpaved
walkways and trails, an overlook area, restrooms, a pedestrian drop-off and pick-up area, and
landscape planting will be included in the project limits.
This contract is for the gymnasium design for this phase of the site. The design will include a
state of the art 18,000 square -foot gymnasium that shall be connected to or adjacent to the
existing gymnasium. The gymnasium shall house two regulation basketball courts or four
volleyball courts with spectator searing, and could incorporate climbing walls for various ability
levels. Staff prepared a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the subject phase. The RFP was sent to
firms on the City's Design Consultants List. The two firms who submitted proposals were Meyer
and Associates of Laguna Hills and Liberstudio Architects of Santa Monica. Based on
qualifications and understanding of the project, Meyer and Associates is the recommended fine.
