AWARD OVERHEAD STREET NAME SIGN PURCHASE,
PROJECT NO. B0003

RECOMMENDED ACTION
1. City Council approve the purchase of 97 reflective overhead mast arm street name signs to
Safeway Sign Company in the amount of $76,317.00, plus a 10 percent contingency of
$7,632.00, for a total of $83,949.00
2. Authorize the City Manager or designee to execute all documents, subject to City Attorney
approval.
BACKGROUND
As part of an overall effort to capitalize on the positive image of the City of Santa Clarita, the
City Council requested staff to design new street name signs for City intersections. This request
was made.to improve the quality and.reflectivity of the City's street signage, and to serve as
delineation between the City and the County, allowing motorists to be aware of when they were
entering or exiting the City. The signs were designed to include the City icon, creating identity
for Santa Clarita consistent with the City's beautification plan.
During the Fiscal Year 2006-07 budget process, the City Council allocated funds to purchase and
install 152 new street name signs at gateway intersections in the City. In November 2006, a
competitive bid process was completed and the City Council awarded a contract to Safeway Sign
Company on December 12, 2006.
During Fiscal Year 2007-08, the City Council allocated funds for phase two of the overhead sign
project to purchase and install 97 signs at 27 gateway intersections. Staff is recommending the
City Council exercise the City's renewal option to the existing contract with Safeway Sign
Company *to provide overhead street name signs for the additional intersections.
