STREETLIGHT INSTALLATION PROJECTS (SECO CANYON
ROAD AND SOLEDAD CANYON ROAD)
Administrative Services
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council:
1) Appropriate $157,423 from Fund 354 (Streetlight Maintenance District No. 1) fund balance to
Account No. 12590-5161.001.
2) Authorize the City Manager or designee to execute all contract documents, or modify the
award in the event that issues of impossibility arise, subject to City Attorney's approval, for
Southern California Edison to install eight streetlights on Seco Canyon Road and six
streetlights on Soledad Canyon Road.
BACKGROUND
In response to citizen inquiries requesting streetlighting on Seco Canyon Road south of Copper
Hill Drive, and on Soledad Canyon Road in front of Canyon Country Park, staff determined
additional streetlighting is warranted. Seco Canyon Road is a secondary arterial with existing
streetlighting north and south of the proposed installation area. Because pedestrian traffic to the
nearby commercial centers is common, streetlighting is warranted for the safety and benefit of
the pedestrians utilizing this arterial.
Soledad Canyon Road is a major arterial with existing streetlighting in most areas. However, the
nearby park lacks proper lighting for pedestrian traffic utilizing the park; therefore, staff has
determined additional streetlighting is needed in this location. Funds to support these projects
are available in the Streetlight Maintenance District No. 1 fund balance. (See Attachment "A.")
