BACKGROUND Ordinance No. 89-6 of the City of Santa Clarita empowers the Director of Emergency Services to proclaim the existence, or threatened existence, of a local emergency when said City is affected or likely to be affected by a public calamity. Conditions of extreme peril to the safety of persons and property have arisen within the City caused by severe winds and fire commencing on or about 10:00 a.m.. on October 21, 2007. These conditions of extreme peril warranted and necessitated the proclamation of the existence of a local emergency throughout the City. Preliminary damage estimates from the local emergency are $2 million in public damages and $20 million in private damages. The public costs include fire damage to irrigation systems in the roadway medians, transit and traffic control costs for evacuations, Emergency Protective measures for downed trees and curb and gutter damage, and debris removal. The private costs include structural damages, property damages, and personal losses. Forty-five (45) buildings were damaged by wind or fire; of these, eight (8) were total building losses. The Director of Emergency Services of the City did proclaim the existence of a local emergency within the City on October 22, 2007, ratified by the City Council on October 23, 2007. This local emergency no longer exists, and its termination is proclaimed by the City Council. Ad.oieuo eS�. o7 - `77 ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS 1. Decline adoption of Resolution. 2. Other action as determined by City Council. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact by adopting this Resolution. ATTACHMENTS Resolution RESOLUTION NO. 07 - RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA, PROCLAIMING TERMINATION OF A LOCAL EMERGENCY WHEREAS, a local emergency existed in the City of Santa Clarita in accordance with the resolution, thereof by the Director of Emergency Services on the 22nd day of October, 2007, as a result of conditions of extreme peril to the safety of persons and property caused by severe winds and fire; and WHEREAS, the situation resulting from said conditions of extreme peril is now deemed to be within the control of the normal protective services, personnel, equipment, and facilities of and within said City of Santa Clarita. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita does hereby proclaim the termination of said local emergency. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
