BACKGROUND
On June 27, 2006, the City Council awarded the contract for the trail repairs along the Santa
Clara River and San Francisquito Creek to Reyes Construction Inc. Construction commenced on
September 11, 2006. The repair work generally consisted of restoring the stream bank, armoring
the embankment with rock slope protection, and rebuilding the trails. The project included
grading, striping, fencing, landscaping, rip -rap placement, irrigation installation, and minor
drainage improvements along the length of each project.
During construction, the contractor performed additional grading and dewatering operations.
Dewatering wells were installed to remove all of the water from the construction area so that the
embankment repair and rip -rap could be installed in dry conditions. The total cost for the project
was $1,567,457.05, including construction, staff time, and other support costs. The construction
contract was completed to the satisfaction of the City Engineer on January 23, 2007 within the
approved budget and contract time.
This project is federally funded under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and
the Office of Emergency Services (OES). FEMA and OES have approved funding in the amount
of $1,452,087.00. The remaining construction cost is expected to be reimbursed by future
FEMA funds and developer funds.
