SUMMARY VACATION OF FORD COURT, AN UNUSED
CUL-DE-SAC DEDICATED ON PARCEL MAP NO. 19163,
ADJACENT TO NEWHALL RANCH ROAD
Public Works
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council adopt a resolution for the summary vacation of Ford Court, the unused cul-de-sac
for road purposes, dedicated to the City of Santa Clarita by Parcel Map No. 19163; and direct the
City Clerk to record.the certified original resolution in the office of the Registrar -Recorder of the
County of Los Angeles.
BACKGROUND
Newhall Land, the property owner of APN Nos. 2866-035-001 and 2866-035-002, has requested
to vacate the unused cul-de-sac located completely within their two properties, adjacent to
Newhall Ranch Road and serving no other properties. This public right-of-way was originally
dedicated to the City of Santa Clarita by Parcel Map No.. 19163, filed in Book 281 of Official
Records, Pages 7 to 10, within their properties (Assessor Parcel Nos. 2866-035-001 and
2866-035-002).
Per Section 8334 of the California Streets and Highways Code, the legislative body of a local
agency may summarily vacate a street or highway for either of the following:
• An excess right-of-way of a street or highway not required for street or highway purposes
• A portion of a street or highway that lies within property under one ownership and does not
continue through such ownership or end touching property of another
Both of these conditions exist; therefore, the City Council may summarily vacate the unused
right-of-way. The vacation of this cul-de-sac does not impact the trail on Newhall Ranch Road.
4dowed: 07-79
In addition, this right-of-way is not needed for any future connection from the Class I trail along
Newhall Hall Ranch Road and the existing development along Crocker Avenue and Avenue
Hall.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION
