VIDEO DETECTION REPLACEMENT PROGRAM FOR
TRAFFIC SIGNALS - AWARD CONTRACT
Public Works
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council award the contract for the purchase of video detection equipment to Iteris Inc., in
the amount of $67,656.25.
2. Authorize the City Manager or designee to execute all documents, subject to City Attorney
approval.
BACKGROUND
This project is intended to replace existing video detection systems that have surpassed their
service -life expectancies. The existing video detection systems to be replaced are based on older
technology and do not detect vehicles properly, causing additional delays to motorists. Each new
video detection system will have a service -life of ten years and will enable reliable vehicle
detection day and night under all weather and lighting conditions. Utilizing overhead video
detection systems will reduce installation and maintenance costs compared to the use of
conventional vehicle loop detection systems installed in the pavement. Therefore, lane closure
costs for in -pavement vehicle loop detector installation and maintenance will be effectively
eliminated, resulting in minimal inconvenience to motorists during construction. This is the first
phase of the multi -phase program, which will replace the remaining existing video detection
systems that are in need of replacement.
The new video detection systems will replace the existing detection systems located at the
intersections of McBean Parkway & Town Center Drive, Valencia Boulevard & Goldcrest Drive,
McBean Parkway & Avenue Scott, Valencia Boulevard & Mall Entrance, and McBean Parkway
& Rockwell Canyon Road.
On May 8, 2007, one bid was received in the amount of $67,656.25 from Iteris Inc., located at
1515 S. Manchester Avenue, Anaheim, CA 92802.2907. After reviewing the bid summary, staff
recommends awarding the contract to Iteris Inc., the apparent lowest responsive bidder, in the
amount of $67,656.25.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
Sufficient funds to purchase this equipment are available in Account No. 4384-8001 and Account
